Some 2007 Team Biographies
Asian American Civic Association's (AACA)/Sampan (Boston)
Established in 1967, the Asian American Civic Association's (AACA) mission is
to help immigrants in adjusting to American life and becoming self sufficient by providing
specialized education in English literacy, job training and social services. It
also publishes New England's only bilingual newspaper, the Sampan. Currently,
AACA is engaged in a capital campaign, Building Opportunities for a Better
Tomorrow, for a new home in Boston's Chinatown. AACA's dragon boat entry, the
Sampan, is raising money as part of this endeavor. Please support AACA and the
Sampan dragon boat team as they paddle to build a better tomorrow. Visit
www.aaca-boston.org for further information.
The Boat For Kids Who Don't Paddle Good (Boston)
We're pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really,
ridiculously good looking, and we plan on finding out what that is.
The Ninth Dragons (Boston)
This is the Ninth Dragons' first year of competing in the dragon boat races.
The team name comes from Chinese mythology for the 9th type of dragon,
Lóng Wáng or "Dragon King" which can morph into human form. It rules
over the four seas, lives in a crystal palace and is guarded by shrimp
soldiers and crab generals. Boston Scientific's Ninth Dragons have been
working hard to develop strong paddling skills, practicing in the cold
Boston rain and praying that Lóng Wáng will keep them afloat long enough to finish.
Dragon Boat Club of Boston: DrachenFurie (Boston)
The Dragon Boat Club of Boston, a competitive Boston Dragon Boat team, practices several times a week in preparation for races all across New England
and as far away as Montreal and San Francisco. We are hoping
to build on our success from last year (Overall Boston winner in 2007,
3 top four finishes, top quarter in Montreal in 2006) and we're
looking for motivated people to help us reach our goals. We're
always happy to welcome people with any level of experience or even
complete beginners. So if you're interested in traveling to other
festivals, meeting new teams and giving them a run for their money,
we'd love to hear from you. And even if you're not, it's still great
exercise and the people are (mostly) cool and outgoing. Contact:
membership@dbcb.org or
president@dbcb.org
Dragon Boat Club of Boston: Wake Riders (Boston)
Formerly known as the Boston Dragons! Between discussions about what our
new name should be, this competitive Boston Dragon Boat team found time to renew our determination, hone our crazy ninja
skills and reload our arsenal of terrible pirate jokes. Will our Kung-Fu
be strong enough to resist the mongrel hordes from New York and our rivals
from across town? No one knows, but we'll have fun finding out. We're
always looking for new people interested in getting some exercise and
having fun on the river. If this sounds like something you might be
interested in, stop by our tent or swing by a practice. Contact:
